BARDON WINS WITH SUPER ASPHALT PRODUCTS
The award-winning Bardon Superflex, part of Bardon Contracting’s range of branded asphalt materials, continues to be specified by key customers, the latest being the prestigious Heathrow Terminal 5 project where it has provided a solution for a multi-storey car park.
Working with client Laing O'Rourke and its designers, Bardon Contracting’s Associated Asphalt business, which operates in the South East, offered a number of surfacing options for the job to cope with both the site's location and the likelihood of reflective cracking as the contract involved overlaying concrete slabs.
The project was completed at the end of August 2006. In total 6,000 tonnes were laid using both 6mm Superflex as a regulating layer and 10mm Superflex as a surface course.
Alistair Mcbeath, Associated Asphalt’s regional manager, explains, "The client needed a material with good resistance to fatigue characteristics, and one which was cost-effective throughout its whole life and in maintenance terms. Bardon Superflex is a high performance product with low voids and almost waterproof properties, so it was the preferred choice for this particular application."
