BARDON AGGREGATES PROVIDES NEW HOME FOR BARN OWLS
Barn Owls are set to benefit from a new refuge built for them by The Barn Owl Trust in Ashburton, using building materials donated freely by Bardon Aggregates which operates Stoneycombe Quarry near Newton Abbott in Devon.
Bardon Aggregates has provided the Trust with several tonnes of aggregate, sand, blocks and walling stone to construct the refuge - a four-metre square tower with a pitched roof.
The project has been filmed for ‘Wild Thing I Love You’, an environmental programme presented by Bill Bailey which features on Channel 4 this Sunday afternoon (December 10th). As well as filming the refuge being built, the programme makers concentrated on where the materials originated from and how they were selected.
Quarry manager, Duncan McIntosh says: “Bill Bailey and the TV crew visited Stoneycombe Quarry to find out how the aggregate and sand is extracted. Bill observed and assisted our team during a controlled quarry blast and helped to select some of the walling stone which will be used at the refuge.
“Playing an active role in the communities in which we operate is central to our whole outlook. We were therefore only too happy to help the Trust by donating the materials.”
