OLYMPIC RIVER TRIP FOR BENNETT'S CUSTOMERS

Prospective shipping customers of Bennett's Tugs and Barges, part of Aggregate Industries UK Ltd, took a trip down the Thames on Friday 29th June, to see for themselves the benefits that will be created by the new waterway leading into the Olympic Village at Stratford, East London.

Senior representatives from Veolia Environmental Services, plasterboard manufacturer Knauf UK, Thames Clippers and other companies interested in shipping aggregates and board materials for Olympic related contracts by water, were invited by Bennett's on the trip which took them from London Docklands to Bow Creek.

David Allen, Managing Director of Bennett's comments, "The construction work underway by British Waterways and the Government to create a navigable waterway at Prescott Lock and refurbish Bow Backwaters, is a key element in the ODA's plans to transport a significant proportion of building materials by water to the Olympic site and meet sustainability targets.

"The trip was designed to highlight the logistics of the route to interested parties and equally importantly to show how it will create a legacy for future generations and increase the flow of commercial and leisure traffic beyond the 2012 Olympics."
